Imagine having a personal assistant who knows exactly what you want and constantly scans your surroundings for opportunities to help you achieve your goals. Sounds amazing, right?

Well, the good news is that you already have this assistant inside your brain, and it’s called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). Think of it as your own Success GPS that can help guide you to the life you want to live. In this post, you’ll discover how to unlock your brain’s potential by activating your RAS so you can achieve your dreams faster than ever before.

Your RAS is like a filter between your conscious and subconscious mind. It brings relevant information to your attention and plays a vital role in your ability to achieve your goals. Imagine it like wearing a pair of golf ball finder glasses. The glasses eliminate the light from background objects and make the golf ball stand out. In this analogy, the golf ball is your goal, and the golf ball finder glasses are your RAS.

Here’s the thing: you can deliberately get your RAS working for you by choosing the exact messages you send from your conscious mind. By getting crystal clear about your goals, you can train your RAS to filter all relevant information and bring it to your attention.

Olympic athletes use visualization techniques to practice and perfect their performances before actually doing it. By doing this, they are training their RAS to work for them.

A quick word of caution: Your RAS can work for you or against you, depending on what you focus on. Your brain cannot distinguish between what is “real” and what is “imagined.” This is why it’s so important to get clear and focused about your goals.

So, are you ready to get your RAS working for you?

The first step is to gain crystal clarity about what you REALLY want. You can focus on your vision of success or, zoom in for clarity around a specific goal.

Once you have a specific vision of success or goal in mind, your RAS will begin to filter all relevant information and bring it to your attention. Opportunities and resources will start to emerge — almost out of thin air.

Here’s how:

  1. Find a quiet and comfortable place where you can relax and be free from distractions.
  2. Take a few deep breaths to calm your mind and body.
  3. Close your eyes and visualize yourself achieving your goal. What does it look like? How does it feel? What are the specific details of your success?
  4. Write down your vision of success in as much detail as possible. Be specific about what you want to achieve and how you plan to get there.
  5. Take a look at your written vision of success and ask yourself if it aligns with your values, beliefs, and priorities.
  6. If necessary, revise your vision of success until it feels authentic and meaningful to you.
  7. Take one action today that will move you closer to your goal.
  8. Revisit your clarity work to keep it top of mind. Repeat the exercise as your vision evolves and/or new goals are set.

Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live. — Anne Sweeney

Remember, clarity and focus are key to activating your Success GPS and achieving your goals faster. By taking the time to gain clarity on what you really want, you can train your RAS to work for you and bring opportunities and resources to your attention. So, take action today and start making your vision of success a reality!
